LIP NEUTRALIZATION

What Is Lip Neutralization?

Lip Neutralization is a Lip Lightening cosmetic procedure designed to correct or balance the natural color of the lips. This technique is often used to address issues such as hyperpigmentation, uneven coloration, or unwanted undertones in the lips.

During the lip lightener procedure, a specially formulated pigment is applied to the lips to neutralize or counteract any undesirable tones. This pigment is carefully selected to complement the client's natural lip color and skin tone, ensuring a harmonious and balanced result.

What Is The Lip Neutralization Process?

The lip lightening lip enhancement process typically begins with a thorough consultation with one of our trained and experienced technicians at our Charlotte location.

During this consultation, the technician will assess the client's lips, discuss their concerns and goals, and determine the most suitable pigment and technique for achieving the desired outcome.

Before the procedure, the lips are cleansed and prepped to ensure optimal pigment retention and adherence. Topical numbing cream is applied to minimize discomfort during the procedure.

Using a precise hand tool or machine, the technician carefully deposits the pigment into the lips, layer by layer, until the lip lightener color correction is achieved.

The technician uses various techniques, to create a natural-looking result and ensure seamless blending with the surrounding skin.

After the procedure, the lips will be swollen, tender, and/or saturated with pigment than the final result due to initial inflammation and pigment oxidation. However, these effects typically subside within a few days to reveal the true color of the lips.

Lip Neutralization requires a Follow Up Session to achieve desired results, as the skin will try to reject the pigment resulting in decreased pigment retention. The follow up session provides additional pigment to the lips for longevity and even pigment throughout.

Lip Neutralization is $650, this includes the initial and follow up sessions.

Lip Neutralization Healing Process

The healing process of lip neutralization follows a similar trajectory to other semi-permanent lip enhancement procedures.

We recommend receiving your lip lightening service at least three weeks prior to a special event or occasion.

Here's what clients can expect during the lip lightener healing process:

1. **Immediate Post-Procedure:** After the lip neutralization procedure, clients may experience some initial swelling, tenderness, and mild discomfort. The lips may also appear more intense in color immediately following the procedure due to initial inflammation and pigment oxidation.

2. **First Few Days:** In the first few days after the procedure, the lips may continue to swell and feel tender. Clients should avoid touching or rubbing the treated area to prevent irritation and minimize the risk of infection. It's essential to follow any post-procedure care instructions provided by the technician, which may include applying a recommended healing balm or ointment to keep the lips moisturized and protected.

3. **Peeling and Flaking:** Around 3 to 7 days post-procedure, the lips may begin to peel or flake as the top layer of skin naturally sheds. This is a normal part of the healing process and should not be picked or exfoliated. Clients should continue to keep the lips moisturized (technician will provide at session) with a gentle, hydrating lip ointment to alleviate any dryness or discomfort.

4. **Color Softening:** As the lips heal, the initial intensity of the pigment will gradually soften and lighten, revealing the true color of the lip neutralization treatment. It's important to note that the final results may take several weeks to fully manifest as the skin undergoes the natural healing process and the pigment settles into the skin.

5. **Follow-Up Appointment:** We recommend a follow-up appointment 6-8 weeks after the initial lip neutralization procedure to assess the healing progress and make any necessary touch-ups or adjustments. During this appointment, your technician can evaluate the color retention and address any areas that may require additional pigment.

6. **Long-Term Maintenance:** To maintain the results of lip neutralization, clients should practice good lip care habits, including protecting the lips from sun exposure, avoiding excessive moisture or oil-based products, and scheduling periodic touch-up appointments as needed to refresh the color and maintain optimal results.

Overall, the healing process of lip neutralization varies from person to person and depends on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and adherence to aftercare instructions.

It's essential for clients to be patient and diligent with their post-procedure care to ensure a smooth and successful recovery. If clients have any concerns or experience unusual symptoms during the healing process, please contact us for support.

LIP NEUTRALIZATION

HOW LONG DOES LIP NEUTRALIZATION LAST?

Lip Neutralization lip lightener can last several years; however, your lifestyle contributes to how well it maintains:

  • Smoking
  • Sun Exposure
  • Oil-Prone
  • Iron Deficiency
  • Exfoliating Products

These factors can speed up the fading process, causing the lip lightening pigment to fade more quickly.  Lip enhancements Results will always vary from person to person, after your initial session and the touch up, your results should last between 2-5 years. Additional touch ups may be required depending on the person and look desired. Permanent makeup ink is not the same as body art ink, and by design it does not last as long as body art ink.

IS THIS PROCEDURE PAINFUL?

A tattoo on the lips sounds painful—especially for someone who might be looking for an alternative to getting injected with filler. Most clients rate it three or four out of ten, with ten being the most painful. There’s little to no discomfort. The lips are numbed for 10 minutes prior to the service. If you’re worried about your pain tolerance, a pain reliever like Tylenol can be taken prior to the appointment; avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, and vitamin E the day before to reduce the possibility of bruising and bleeding.

WHAT SHOULD I KNOW PRIOR TO THE PROCEDURE?

If you have a history of cold sores or herpes, even if you have had only ONE cold sore, ANYWHERE, at ANY point in your life - the procedure could trigger an outbreak.

IT'S VERY IMPORTANT TO REQUEST A PRESCRIBED ANTI-VIRAL MEDICATION. The prescribed anti-viral medication should be enough to take the day prior to your procedure, the day of, and the day after. Please ask your doctor to prescribe enough to do the exact same for your Touch Up Appointment. If you do not remember if you've had a cold sore, please take the prescribed anti-viral medication anyways. This is so important, as this type of procedure can trigger an outbreak due to the opening of the skin. The lips are very sensitive and more susceptible to an outbreak if you've had a history of cold sores. Cold Sores can affect the healed results of the Lip Neutralization.

  • Do not take aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oils, vitamin E, niacin, or drink excessive alcohol at least 48 hours prior to and after your procedure.
  • Do not take any prescription blood thinners at least 48 hours prior to and after your procedure.
  • Discontinue any vitamin A skin care products (Retin-A, retinols) close to the enhancement area at least TWO weeks prior to your procedure. **We recommend NOT using these products over or around the tattooed area after you receive your cosmetic tattoo. It could cause fading and distortion of color.**
  • Discontinue use of AHA (chemical exfoliation) skin care products close to the area to be tattooed at least one week prior to your procedure.
  • No laser or electrolysis on or around the treatment area one week prior to procedure.
  • No Botox or fillers in the procedure area less than one week prior.
  • Plan trips or events a minimum of 14 days after the procedure.
  • Due to unwanted elements limit the amount of caffeine you consume the morning of your appointment.
  • Do not have any chemical peels, dermabrasions, mesotherapy, or any other intense treatments which will cause faster skin cell rejuvenating and cause skin irritation 3-4 weeks before procedure.
  • If you have been on prescription Accutane in the past, you MUST wait at least one year before considering this procedure.
  • It is highly recommended that you avoid SUN TANNING and TANNING BED exposure for 30 days BEFORE and AFTER your procedure. If you show up for your appointment with a new tan or a sunburn, you will need to reschedule and will forfeit your booking fee. As your skin exfoliates from a sunburn, it will take the pigment with it.

IF THIS IS NOT TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT PRIOR TO YOUR PROCEDURE & WE HAVE TO RESCHEDULE THE DAY OF YOUR PROCEDURE, A $50 CANCELLATION FEE WILL BE CHARGED.

*** If you have an outbreak, or any other type of scratch/acne we ask that you reschedule your appointment as soon as possible. If you show up with any type of outbreak your appointment is considered cancelled and you will be charged a $50 cancellation fee. ***

HOW LONG DOES THE PROCEDURE LAST?

The Lip Lightening procedure takes about 3-4 hours (depends on the size of the lips & the circumstance). The consultation and prep work in addition to the numbing take a portion of the time. We want to make sure after we have discussed your concerns, we are on the same page before starting the procedure. We will apply numbing cream for 10 minutes, then start the Lip Neutralization lip lightener process.

WHAT TO EXPECT THE DAY OF THE LIP ENHANCEMENT PROCEDURE?

First, there’s pout prep. A topical anesthetic is applied to pre-numb the lips for 10 minutes. Afterwards,

the procedure takes place over the course of two hours to an two hours and a half, if not longer, depending on the size of lips and the amount of discoloration needing neutralizing.  Keep in mind, Lip Neutralizing is a natural procedure, that enhances the shape you already have. It provides the illusion of fuller lips without injections. However, if your looking for shape, fullness, completely different than what you have, lip fillers will be the best option for you. Once the appointment is completed, your lips will be swollen—it is similar to a tattoo, after all—so you can ice them if necessary.

WHAT TO EXPECT DURING THE LIP NEUTRALIZATION HEALING PROCESS?

Lips will be swollen for 24-48 hours. For the first 24 hours, we advise clients to gently blot their lips with a wet cotton pad and let them air dry. This is to keep the lips clean and remove any body fluids that have surfaced and prevent the fluids from forming scabs.

Lip color will be intense days 1-4. Color will start to peel and a layer will shed around days 3-4. By the end of week 1, lips may look lighter than the final outcome.

Clients like to be out of the public eye around peeling phase, typically days 3-4. Every client heals differently, scabbing may not be as excessive, and/or may not occur on days 3-4. Peeling could happen sooner or later.

When it comes to scabs, it’s important that they fall off naturally—picking them can result in scarring or loss of pigment in those areas. We suggest avoiding workouts and sun exposure for two weeks and if you plan on getting injections, wait a full month. Sleeping on your face could also cause the scabs to fall off prematurely. Aquaphor should be worn excessively to keep the lips properly moisturized.

First couple of days can pass off as bright lipstick, but the peeling can be difficult to disguise.

Initially, the color will be super vibrant, like a lip stain. It's important not to be misled by the immediate ‘after’ results. The immediate results look nothing like when the lips are healed. Once healed, the color fades approximately 30-50 percent and blends into a natural lip color.

Scabbing typically lasts five to seven days, which can be camouflaged by the consistent use of Aquaphor. After four weeks(max, some heal sooner), the lips should be fully healed to completion. A Touch-Up Appointment in six weeks is recommended to fill in areas that may have rejected pigment.

The BEST way to describe the Healing Process is as follows:

TOO BRIGHT

TOO LIGHT

JUST RIGHT

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF LIP NEUTRALIZATION

Like any other cosmetic tattooing, there are risks associated with lip lightening such as allergic reactions or infections. We provide After Care instructions to prevent any negative reactions with lip lightener. All needles used for the procedure are disposable and are not reused under any condition. If client has history of allergic reactions to metals or pigments, a in-person consultation should be booked, for a patch test to be performed.

Any history of cold sores or herpes, a prescribed (not topical, an oral prescription) anti-viral medication is highly advised, as this procedure will trigger an outbreak.

For darker complexions, due to the increased melanin, hyperpigmentation is a major risk. Darker skin types inhibit visualization of blood vessels and therefore we see darker undertones to the lips which is referred to as hyper pigmented lips. With that said, actual injury to the skin can cause hyperpigmentation.

When Neutralizing lips, there's always a possibility of darkening pigmentation. This is very rare, however, you must be aware of the risks associated with any Lip Enhancements.

IS EVERYONE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE THIS SERVICE?

Please read carefully. If any of the following apply to you, please be aware of the possibilities:

  • If you are a smoker or have a history of MRSA (pigment may not retain properly and may distort)
  • Have psoriasis in the treatment area (cannot receive service, pigment may fan, outside of the desired area)
  • Have an auto-immune disease (pigment may not retain properly)
  • Have a thyroid/graves disease (medication may cause pigment not to retain properly)
  • Currently undergoing chemotherapy (wait at least 6 months after chemotherapy is complete - pigment will not retain)
  • Pregnant or Nursing (No exceptions - you cannot have this service)
  • Diabetes Type 1 or 2 (Due to slow healing and infection, color may or may not heal well)
  • If you are under doctors care and have questions AT ALL about being able to have this procedure, it is your responsibility to meet with your doctor and get written approval.

Even if none of the above apply, Lip Neutralization is a Cosmetic Tattoo, and the skin can be unpredictable. It's up to your skin to retain the pigment. Generally results are successful.

LIP NEUTRALIZATION AFTER CARE

  1. Keep the Lips Clean: For the first 24 hours after the procedure, avoid touching or wetting the lips to allow the pigment to fully settle. For Swelling, you may Apply A Ziploc bag filled with water & ice for no more than 15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
  2. Apply Healing Balm: Apply a thin layer of recommended healing balm or ointment to the lips immediately after cleansing (your technician will do this before you leave) and throughout the healing process. Balm will be provided by your technican.

This helps keep the lips moisturized, promotes healing, and protects against dryness or cracking. Texture is normal and is often experienced in the first few days of healing.

3.  Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect the lips from direct sunlight and UV exposure, as this can cause premature fading and affect the color retention of the pigment. If exposure to sunlight is unavoidable, apply a broad-spectrum lip balm with SPF protection or wear a wide-brimmed hat to shield the lips.

4. Avoid Excessive Moisture: Refrain from activities that may excessively wet or saturate the lips, such as swimming, hot tubs, or saunas, for at least two weeks post-procedure. Excessive moisture can disrupt the healing process and compromise the longevity of the lip lightening pigment.

5. Minimize Physical Activity: Avoid strenuous exercise or activities that may cause sweating or increased blood flow to the lips for the first few days after the procedure. Excessive sweating can lead to pigment loss and affect the final results of the lip lightener process.

6. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol: Refrain from smoking and consuming alcoholic beverages during the healing process, as these substances can impair healing, increase inflammation, and compromise the integrity of the pigment.

7. Avoid Harsh Products: Steer clear of harsh or abrasive skincare products, cosmetics, and lip balms containing fragrances, dyes, or exfoliating ingredients that may irritate or disrupt the healing skin.

8. Be Gentle: Avoid picking, scratching, or rubbing the lips, as this can cause trauma to the treated area, disrupt the healing process, and lead to pigment loss or uneven fading.

9. Be Careful Eating/Drinking: During the first few days, eat carefully as to avoid salty, spicy foods touching the lip, this can cause irritation. Drinking through a straw will help avoid excessive aggression against the lip enhancement.
